Des Moines, Iowa – It was another exciting Friday night at the Iowa State Fair Speedway as racing enters its last month of the season. Jeff Johnson won his seventh Karl Chevrolet NDTR truck feature of the season. Other winners were Chris Smyser in his IMCA late model, Tim St. Arnold in the 360-sprint class, Dave Farren Jr. in the IMCA modified race, Maynard Davis III in the IMCA stock feature and, Rick Gladson and Mark Chance who won IMCA hobby stock features.
In the IMCA late model feature, Chris Fontana took the early lead, but Chris Smyser made a smart move and passed him on a restart half way through the 18-lap feature. Smyser won easily followed by Craig Jacobs, Darrell DeFrance, and Fontana. Earlier in a heat, Wade Russell walked away after his car veered sharply and crashed hard into the pit entrance on turn one.
Matt Moro took the early lead and looked like the winner in the 360-sprint car feature. Tim St. Arnold started tenth, moved through the field, and four laps from the finish, he powered past Moro on the outside of turn two for the lead. Moro finished second behind St. Arnold with Doran Doty third and Larry Pinegar fourth.
The Farren family led the field to the checkered in the IMCA modified feature with son David Jr. running first and father Dave Sr. finishing second. Bill Davis Sr. was third and Russ Gladson was fourth.
It was Maynard Davis III who led the field in the IMCA stock car feature. Danny Hill, Todd Fisher, and Marshall Allen followed him.
The first IMCA hobby stock feature went to Rick Gladson with Bill Bonnett in second, Frank Grove in third and Eric Stanton in fourth. The winner of the second feature was Mark Chance, who won a three-lap duel with Keith Williamson by less than a car length at the checkered. Steve Curtis was third and Jason Murray was fourth.
The top four finishers in the Karl Chevrolet NDTR truck were Jeff Johnson, Mark Fee, the driver of the 98 truck, and Michael Hoffman.
Racing in all classes continues next Friday with hot laps at 6:00 followed by racing.
