Weather Cancels Rest of Program

Des Moines, Iowa – Drivers and track staff raced Mother Nature Friday night at the Iowa State Fair Speedway and managed to complete two-thirds of the program before rain and lightening led to postponement of the rest the features. The IMCA modified feature was stopped after four laps with Mathew Donald leading. The race will be completed next Friday along with the IMCA late model main and two IMCA hobby stock features. Racing will begin at 6:30.
Don Killen won his fourth IMCA stock car feature as Josh Higday collected his second 360 sprint win. Rod Sorter collected his first Karl Chevrolet Dirt Truck victory of the season.
Josh Higday led all 18-laps of the 360 sprint feature and was able to hold off the challenge from Don Droud Jr. for the win. Steve Breazeale finished in third with Mark Wilson fourth.
In the IMCA stock car feature, Travis Hansaker claimed the lead from his pole position with Todd Fisher running second. Don Killen, who started eighth, edged through the field passing Fisher on lap seven and Hansaker on lap ten of the 15-lap race. The top four finishers were Killen, Hansaker, Maynard Davis III, and Fisher. Killen’s victory allowed him to pass Steve Jackson for the points lead.
Rod Sorter led all the laps and won the Karl Chevrolet NDTR truck feature with Sean Allen finishing second, Jim Philipsen third, and Lou Sipolt fourth
Racing continues next Friday with hot laps at 6:00 followed by make-up features at 6:30 followed by heats, and regular features. Dwarf cars will race in place of the 360 sprints. The Good Guys car show will be on the main concourse at the fairgrounds and fans will need to park north of the track.
