and Chance Repeat

(Des Moines, Iowa) (April 19, 2002) The track was fast Friday night at the Iowa State Fair Speedway as Danny Wallace won his second IMCA modified feature in three weeks of racing. Mark Chance, in his IMCA hobby stock, also won his second main of the season. Other winners were Don Killen, IMCA stock cars; Todd Cooney, IMCA late models; Mark Fee, NDTRA dirt trucks; and Douglas Sidle and Mark Daughenbaugh in IMCA hobby stocks.
Chris Wilkie shot into the lead at the start of the IMCA modified feature ahead of Greg Cox and 24 other cars. On lap four of the 15-lap race, a seven-car pileup removed several contenders from the race. Two laps later, rain started and flagman Toby Kruse halted the competition. Fifteen minutes later, the race resumed and Danny Wallace continue his move through the field. Wallace, who started in the sixth row, had darted through the field and was ahead of the cars involved in the big crash. On lap ten, he passed Wilkie coming out of turn four and finished ahead of Rod Scheuermann, Josh Truman, and Bill Davis Jr.
Todd Fisher led the first lap of the IMCA stock car main, but he could not deny Don Killen who started behind Fisher and ran a dominating race. Steve Jackson, who started twelfth, finished a distant second with Fisher in third and John Hunnell fourth.
In the last of the no-points races for IMCA modifieds, Craig Jacobs passed Tony Moro on lap two. Todd Cooney, who started last, flew by Jacobs on lap ten and won going away. Nick Houseman, who found a fast line through turns one and two, finished second ahead of Randy Faux and Steve Borts. The regular season begins next week for the late models.
In the Karl Chevrolet NDTRA feature, Mark Fee passed Matt Waugh early in the race and was first to the checkered. Finishing second was Sean Allen with Pat Fagen third and Ben Nading in fourth.
In the three features for IMCA hobby stocks, all were won by drivers who led start to finish. The first race belonged to Mark Chance. Bob Green ran second with Frank Grove a distant third and Eric Stanton fourth.
The second IMCA hobby main belonged to Douglas Sidle who was able to hold off a final lap challenge by Jason Murray, who raced aside Sidle in turn four. Murray was scored second followed by Curt Reed and Gary Stajcar. After the race, John Watson claimed Sidle’s engine.
Mark Daughenbaugh won the third IMCA hobby stock feature with Rick Gladson second, Ryan Lundy third, and Randy Caster fourth. After the race, Bill Richards claimed Daughenbaugh’s engine and Tim Gannon claimed Lundy’s.
Racing continues next Friday with the first night of point races for IMCA late models along with IMCA modifieds, stock cars, hobby stocks, and NDTRA dirt trucks. Hot laps begin at 6:00 pm and will be followed by racing.
