Iowa State Fair Speedway: Borts, Killen, and Chance Repeat

(Des Moines, Iowa) (April 26, 2002) For as far back as one can remember, Friday night marked the first
time that the Iowa State Fair Speedway raced every week during the month of April. It was exciting night
of racing with both new and repeat winners.
Steve Borts is making winning at the start of the season a habit. On the first night of racing at the
fairgrounds, Borts won the first non-points IMCA late mode race of the season and this Friday,
he won the first point's race for IMCA late models. Todd Cooney was second with Tony Moro third
and Chris Fontana fourth. Russ Gladson nosed out Ron VerBeek at the finish to win the IMCA modified main.
Dave Farren Jr. was third and Danny Wallace fourth.
Repeating his finish last week, Don Killen took the checkered first in the IMCA stock car feature.
Steve Campbell, in his best finish of the year, was second as Mike Todd ran third and Steve Jackson fourth.
The Karl Chevrolet NDTRA dirt truck feature winner was Bret Moyer with Sean Allen, Mark Fee,
and Ben Nading following.
The first IMCA hobby stock feature was won by Rick Gladson with Bill Dawson second, Ralph Jones third,
and Rob Allison fourth. The second hobby main went to Mark Chance, who won his third feature in four weeks.
Jeff Featherstone finished second, Randy Casner third, and Justine Maschke fourth. The winner of the final
hobby stock feature was Jim Tull followed by Bruce Wolfe, Matt Sheets, and John Watson.
Racing continues next Friday with the line-up of IMCA late models, modifieds, stock cars, and hobby stocks,
along with NDTR dirt trucks. Hot laps begin at 6:00 pm and will be followed by racing.
