Jackson Wins before Rains Arrive

(Des Moines, Iowa) (July 2, 2004) It was Good Guys Weekend at the Iowa State Fairgrounds and Steve Jackson won his third straight and fifth IMCA stock feature of the season. As the next hobby stock feature took the track, heavy rains fell. The remainder of the program was postponed until next Friday night. The make-up features begin at 6:15 PM and will be followed by a full program.
Eighteen heats and one feature were run on the heavy track. There were only two caution flags thrown all night.
Jeff Pederson took the early lead in the stock car feature chased by Jason Murray. A caution flag after the second lap tighten up the field and the threesome of Pederson, Murray, and Steve Jackson raced for the lead. On lap eight, Jackson went low into to turn one and moved from third to first coming out of turn two. Murray tapped Pedersen and moved around him also. Jackson then pulled away from the field. Coming down the front stretch on the last lap, he tangled with the lapped car of Randy Killen. Jackson was able to keep the car straight and take the victory. The finishing order was Jackson, Murray, Mike Todd, and Greg Shepherd.
Also appearing on the program were 305 non-wing sprint cars. Their feature will not be rescheduled, but they will return later in the season.
Racing continues next Friday evening with the make-up features followed by a full program of IMCA late models, modifieds, stock cars, and hobby stocks as well as Karl Chevrolet dirt trucks competing. Racing begins at 6:15 PM.
