Iowa State Fair Winners: Aikey and Greiner
by DAVID WILKINSON
Des Moines, Iowa -- Jeff Aikey squeaked out a victory at the Iowa State Fair
race for the Derry Brothers Summer Series for IMCA late models on Tuesday.
Aikey led the last 48 laps of the 50 lap main, and at times had a huge lead
over the other cars, even after the cars regrouped during the three cautions.
Mark Burgtorf consistently moved through the field and was rapidly closing
the gap on Aikey during the last five laps. Aikey beat Burgtorf to the
checkered by four car lengths and widen his lead in the summer series.
In the NAPA Winner Series for IMCA stock cars, Bobby Greiner eked out a
victory in the 25 lap feature by passing Mark Elliott, who lead for 19 laps.
Geiner, successfully drove his car forward and went low in the last five
laps, surprising Elliott as he pulled aside of other drivers three times in
the future.
With his victory, Aikey expanded his Derry Brother's lead.
Season championships at the fairgrounds will be Thursday, September 2.
