IA. ST FAIR SPEEDWAY - EXTRA PRIZE TO DEFRANCE
by DAVID WILKINSON

feature and claim an extra $400 prize from Midwest Motorsports for winning
two consecutive races. He won Saturday at Webster City. Other winners on
Friday were: John Logue (IMCA modified), Steve Jackson (IMCA stock car), and
Steve Curtis and Jim Alexander in IMCA hobby stock features.
DeFrance had to work hard for the victory. Les Verly took the early lead
until Billy Allen powered around him. On lap 12, DeFrance catapulted to the
lead and held on to the checkered. finishing behind him were Allen, Chris
Smyser, and Verly.
In the 15-lap IMCA modified feature, Russ Gladson hurdled into the lead from
his front row starting position, but could not hold off the challenge of Tom
Killen. Killen passed Gladson on lap seven. John Logue, who started 12th,
advanced through the field and passed Killen on lap 10 and took the checkered
first. He was followed at the finish by Bill Davis Jr., Mark Allgood, and
Jeff Gorman
Steve Jackson passed Mark Elliott halfway through the IMCA stock car feature
and finished first followed by John Hunnell, Paul Anderson, and Tim Baker.
For the third time this year, Steve Curtis and Jim Alexander won IMCA hobby
stock main events. Finishing behind Curtis were Bill Bonnett, Adam Hagen and
Randy Embrey. Alexander was followed to the checkered by John Yaw Sr., Scott
Lowe, and Don Wear. Driver Curt Reed was taken to the hospital for neck pain
