Little Memorial Winners – Farren, Jackson, Embrey and Dennis

by DAVID WILKINSON

Stuart, Iowa (May 28, 2000) – Nearly one hundred cars took to the Stuart Speedway Sunday night in honor of the late modified driver and builder, Ron Little. When the dust settled after the 25-lap IMCA modified feature, Little’s former competitor, Dave Farren took the checkered first. Steve Jackson won the IMCA stock car feature as Larry Embrey claimed the IMCA hobby stock race. Rick Dennis won in his dwarf car and the duo of Meyer and Meyer won the cruiser feature.

Ron Little died at the track last race after completing a modifieid feature. He had over 40 career modified victories with as many as one-half of of them at Stuart. The gentle giant was popular with racers and fans. Prior to the modified feature, eight modifieds built by Little paraded the track. Mary Little, Ron’s wife, joined Bob Moses on the flagger’s stand and started the feature.

Local driver Chris Pruitt jumped into the lead. By the twelfth lap Dave Farren, former IMCA national modified champion, moved through the field into second. Farren took aim at Pruitt. On the 20th lap, Farren nosed past Pruitt and then widened his lead to the finish. With Pruitt finishing second, John Mylan was third with veteran Dude Thompson in fourth.

Monty Knode took the early lead of the IMCA stock car feature. He was stalked by Steve Jackson who passed him on the 12th lap of the 15-lap feature. Jackson maintained the lead for the victory with Knode second, Erick Knudsen third, and Ron Godwin fourth.

In the IMCA hobby stock feature, Jef Schildberg took the led from the pole position until he left the race on lap four. Larry Embrey led the remainder of the race for the win followed to the finish by Dewey Willuweit, Randy Embrey, and Kerry Hayes.

Rick Dennis passed Sam Allison half way through the dwarf car feature and was first to the checkered. Finishing second was Cliff Barber with Allison in third and Randy Bryan in fourth.

The cruiser feature was won by the due of Meyer and Meyer with Day and Cole, Aldrich and McNair, and Dalkes and Wood following.

Racing continues in all classes next Sunday with gates opening at 4:30 P.M., hot laps at 6:15, followed by racing competition. The track phone is
