PARKISON AGAIN AT STUART
by DAVID WILKINSON
Mick Trier made a "nine-one-one" call and helped arrived from the Heartland
Co-op in Dexter and the "Cruiser Calvary." Almost two inches of rain hit the
Stuart Speedway Sunday morning and special help was needed for the track to
be raceable. The co-op responded and so did many of the local cruiser
drivers. At one time, 12 four-wheeled vehicles and two trucks were working
the muddy raceway. By showtime, the track was in good shape.
The cruiser feature was won by Keat and Elmquist. The other features were
repeat triumphs - IMCA modified win number three for Rex Parkison, and
second victories for Steve Jackson (IMCA stock car), Randy Embrey (IMCA hobby
stock), and Cliff Barber (dwarf cars).
The leader of the first lap of the IMCA modified feature was George Derry,
who was passed by Joe McBirney who started to pull away from the field.
However, Rex Parkison and Dave Farren Sr. set to pass him. Parkison passed
him on lap six and Farren followed on the next lap. Farren chased Parkison
for the rest of the race, but was unable to pass him and finished second.
Terry Pruitt was third and McBirney was fourth.
Monty Knode grabbed the lead at the start of the IMCA stock car main.
Starting 12th, Steve Jackson advanced through the field and was able to pass
Knode on lap 13 of the 15 lap race. Finishing third behind them was Bob
Bowman with Erick Knutsen fourth.
The IMCA hobby stock feature was led by Larry Embrey until mechanical
problems force him to leave competition. His son Randy passed Steve Roberts
and led the remainder of the race. Mark Chance finished second, Keith
Williamson third, and Kerry Hayes fourth. Chris Pruitt walked away from a
violent crash in which his car rolled.
Jamie Bailey ran strong as he led the dwarf car feature until the white flag
lap. Cliff Barber had tracked Bailey down and claimed the lead. Ed Zehm
finished second, Tony Coe third, and Bailey fourth. Shane Hunter won the
trophy dash.
The duo of Keat and Elmquist led the entire cruiser feature with Curt Ganoe
and Shawn Phippen finishing second, Tuller and Hawley third, and Herring and
Tessmer fourth.
Modified and stock car driver Joe College suffered from heat exhaustion and
was transferred to a hospital by Stuart Rescue Unit. Early reports indicated
he was in good condition.

Racing continues in all classes next Sunday with gates opening at 4:30 P.M.,
hot laps at 6:15, and competition at 7:00.
