STUART BEST TO ANDERSON; NKFHT TO R. EMBREY
by DAVID WILKINSON
Stuart, Iowa (July 13, 2000) – Two traveling series provided the Stuart Speedway fans with a great night of racing Thursday. Jeff Anderson captured an unpopular win in the Midwest Motors Best of the Midwest Winners Series for IMCA stock cars while Randy Embrey won the National Kidney Foundation Heartland Tour for a Cure hobby stock feature. Shane Hunter won the dwarf car feature and the cruiser event went to the team of Meyer and Meyer.
In the stock car race, Jeff Wollam jumped into the lead with fellow front row driver Mark Elliott following. Rick Brown ran in third with Todd Foster in fourth. All were running hard and close. On a restart, Jeff Anderson who was running sixth, vaulted into fifth and was running fourth ahead of Foster one lap later. Wollam had maintained a slight lead as he and Elliott ran side-by-side for several laps. On lap 14, the leaders approached a slower car and Anderson was able to move by Brown and then Elliott.
There was lots of jostling for space and bumping among the leaders as they raced on the high side of a very fast track. Anderson then challenged Wollam and the race was on. On the 24th lap as they come out of turn three, both cars were high with Wollam on the outside. Anderson’s car moved up into Wollam, who hit the concrete wall and had to leave the race. Six laps later, Anderson took the checkered as most of the crowd booed.
The hobby stock feature was very competitive with only two leaders –Ben Hoesing for the first 15 laps and Randy Embrey for the last five laps. Don Wear was second for most of the race, including the finish. Third went to Dan Hanselman with Ryan Griffith fourth.
The Heartland Tour for a Cure is sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation of Iowa and serves as a way to promote warning signs of kidney disease.
Racing continues in all classes each Sunday with gates opening at 4:30 P.M., hot laps at 6:15, followed by racing competition. The track phone is
