Parkison Wins Ron Little Memorial
by David Wilkinson
(Stuart, Iowa) (May 27, 2001) Rex Parkison won the Ron Little Memorial for IMCA modifieds Sunday evening at the Stuart Speedway. The race honors modified driver and car builder Ron Little who died suddenly in 1999 after a race at the speedway. In addition to the regular racing card, features rained out the week before were run with Rod Scheurermann winning the postponed modified race.
Dual winners were Jeff Anderson in his IMCA stock car, Todd Shute in his dwarf car and the duo of Timbler and Day in their cruiser. IMCA hobby stock mains went to Chad Waddell, Chris Walker and Bill Bonnett.
In the Ron Little Memorial, Little’s wife Mary threw the green and Bob Airhart took the early lead, but Terry Pruitt passed him on a third lap restart. Two laps later, Rex Parkison edged passed Pruitt and pulled away to win easily. Ron Bash finished second, Pruitt third, and Joe College fourth.
In the second IMCA stock car main, Jeff Anderson passed Brian Blessington on the second lap and outraced him to the checkered. Blessington finished second with Steve Campbell third and Tim Baker fourth.
In the first of the regular IMCA hobby stock features, Chadd Waddell moved into the lead from pole. On the third lap, Keith Williamson edged passed Waddell on the front stretch and then Chris Walker passed him on the next lap. Walker finished first followed by Waddell, Williamson, and Craig Roberts. After the race, Todd Cooper claimed Walker’s engine.
In the next IMCA hobby stock feature, the first three laps each had a different leader – Josh Reynolds on lap one, Steve Roberts on lap two, and then Michael Pruitt. Following a caution, Bill Bonnett passed Pruitt on the lap 10 restart and took the checkered ahead of Pruitt, Bob Miller, and Adam Hagen.
Alan Van Gorp jumped into the early lead of the dwarf car feature. On lap seven Todd Shute passed him for the lead and then was able to hold of the challenge of Cliff Barber. The top four finishers were Shute, Barber, Van Gorp, and Fred Schimmels.
Racing continues next Sunday with the IMCA modifieds, stock cars, hobby stocks, and Stuart dwarf cars and two-driver. Hot laps begin at 5:00 pm and will be followed by racing.
